Rick is Herbert Garrison's boyfriend who first appears in the Season Twenty-Five episode "Pajama Day". They live together and currently seem to be in a serious relationship.

Background

During fourth-grade class in "Pajama Day", Mr. Garrison introduces his new boyfriend Rick, explaining that they had met up prior and began to foster a new relationship. Rick thought that it was awkward to be showing up in Mr. Garrison's class, however the latter brushes it off and describes Rick as "nervous" and "shy". Rick then leaves on his own, promising to pick Garrison up after school. Garrison later mentions that after finding out he was still getting calls from another ex-boyfriend, Rick was understanding and allowed him time to process, but they still spent a night together embracing each other.

After the school declares an "Opposite Day", Rick returns to the class, being dragged by Garrison and appearing in pajamas.

They are still dating as of "Back To The Cold War", when Garrison explains to the classroom that they recently had a fight, but that Rick was completely in the wrong. The class is disinterested, more concerned about Vladimir Putin, however, Garrison misunderstands them and claims he did not fart while having sex with Rick.

In "Deep Learning", Garrison and Rick seem to be living together at the Garrison Residence. Rick is preparing food while Garrison complains about having to grade his students' papers, and after Garrison complains his students' essays are becoming more detailed and lengthy, Rick introduces him to Chat GPT. Garrison is ecstatic that a tool exists that can help him grade his papers faster, failing to realize that his students are using it to write their papers, and then thanks Rick for being supportive in replying to his texts. Rick looks down a little, suggesting he is using Chat GPT to respond.

In "Spring Break", Garrison books a vacation for him and Rick to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina over spring break, but Rick expresses concern immediately about Garrison going back to his old ways and while Garrison makes many promises to avoid places that tempt him, the two do walk by a Maga Store and late at night, Garrison returns there to "rally" as he did during his presidential campaign. Staying out rallying over the night though, Garrison it to tired to spend a beach day with Rick they planned together, leaving Rick despondent. After Garrison repeatedly falls back into rallying despite promising Rick he would stop, Rick books a flight home. Garrison holds a televised campaign rally where he proclaims to his supporters that he needs a partner to prevent him from doing stupid things and destroying himself, and declares that he loves Rick, leading his supporters to storm and attack the United States Capitol. When Garrison returns to Colorado, Rick is waiting outside their home, declaring he would rather stay home and not return to politics, though Rick declares they will have to see what happens.

Appearance

Rick has gray hair that is combed to the left and a gray mustache. He wears a pale yellow polo shirt, blue shorts, pink socks, and white shoes, as well as an ear stud on his left ear.

At the end of "Pajama Day", Rick is seen wearing a pajamas set consisting of a red shirt with gray sleeves, gray pants, and red slippers. His pajamas is largely decorated with patterns of pine trees, mountains, and red tents, bearing the words "Happy Camper".

Relationships

Herbert Garrison

Garrison and Rick seem to have a serious relationship as they are living together. Rick seems to be loving and supportive towards Garrison, not holding his continued relationship with an ex-boyfriend against him and still taking care of him into the night. He offers Chat GPT as a solution to help Garrison with his teaching career. He places high value on the time they both spend together, as shown when he suggests Garrison use Chat GPT so they can have more free time, and later his disappointment when Garrison is too busy sleeping in at the resort. When Garrison thanks him all of his supportive texts, he also looks guilty, presumably having written them with Chat GPT, He seems to care deeply for Garrison, and affectionately refers to him as 'Herb'.

Garrison seems to be very happy with Rick as a boyfriend, telling his class about him incessantly, thanking him for his text messages and insisting they vacation together so he can "spoil" him. Though he fails to give up rallying entirely, Garrison seems determined at first to drop the habit even when Rick offers him the opportunity to do so anyway. When they break up, Garrison acknowledges his fault and that Rick has been wronged and that he does not deserve a second chance from him. Garrison admits he is prone to self-destructive behavior without a partner to hold him accountable, and declares that he loves Rick, insisting the recent times have been the happiest, and they get back together.

Prominence

Trivia

  • Despite being gay, Rick has an ear stud on his left ear, which would imply that he's heterosexual, as gay people generally have their right ears pieced, in order to indicate their homosexuality.
