References to Popular Culture

  • The song that Towelie tries to play on guitar at the talent show, is Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven".
  • The boys hold a contest reminiscent of The Bachelor in order to choose a new friend to take Kenny's place, even using roses.
  • The music at parts of the friend choosing game might be a reference to the music of Friends.
  • The scene where Butters Stotch is making his Professor Chaos costume is a reference to a scene from Batman Returns.
  • The way Professor Chaos utilizes his pet hamsters is a reference to the 1971 horror film Willard and its antagonist's use of rat minions.
  • A quote in the South Park Times Newspaper references the Movie "Forrest Gump" with its famous "life is like a box of chocolates" quote.
    • The newspaper also has a headline titled "North Park Ratings Sky Rocket" referencing themselves.

Continuity

  • On the last page, Butters reads says "Flying Frogs Put This Years Crops In Danger", a reference to "It Hits the Fan".
  • Loogie is referred to as "Luigi" in this episode.
  • Distraught, Butters wanders home and laments at his bedroom window, recalling the many things he did for the boys, such as buying tampons for them and going on "Maury Povich" with balls on his chin for them.
  • On the wall of the room, in the beginning, there is a "Cow Days" banner and a stuffed panda which resembles the Sexual Harassment Panda from "Sexual Harassment Panda".
  • Damien is seen in the background as a candidate to be the boys' new best friend.
  • As Professor Chaos walks down the street, a man can be seen who has a relatively large role in "The Passion of the Jew".

Goofs

  • As the boys call Loogie to get a rose, Damien had not been selected but was holding a rose anyway.
  • Similarly, when Tweek gets selected to collect his rose, both Damien and DogPoo were seen with a rose, despite both not making the cut.
  • Despite being selected for the final six, Pip is absent during the swimsuit competition.
  • When DogPoo was interviewed, his face seems to be clean from dirt.
  • When Butters Stotch was looking at the South Park Times Newspaper, the Weather headline reads the temperatures "60-68" for Friday, "66-72" for Saturday, and "78-85" on Sunday. At these temperatures, snow would be almost completely melted, but throughout the episode, there was snow on trees and the ground.
  • At the baseball game, Cartman tells Pip to leave. However, his picture still appears in the finals.
  • When the boys mention that there are twenty contestants to get the position of the fourth friend, there are really twenty-one in the shot. In the end, Cartman says there are four, but five are shown.
  • When they are handing out roses for the final six, it is shown when Jimmy Valmer is getting his rose that Craig Tucker is clearly holding a rose in his hand, despite not being selected.
  • During the swimsuit competition, Stan's eyes got out of sync while talking to Eric Cartman and Kyle Broflovski.
  • Butters has a camera in his garden linked up to the screen at the baseball pitch when he tries to flood the world. However, in the zoomed-out shot of his house, the camera is absent.

  • Fourth wall break: Instead of a pie-eating contest, Butters informs the boys that there are South Park toys available in McDonald's Happy Meals.
  • Butters recalling the events of past episodes are removed, and replaced with good manners such as minding queues and returning found items.
