• Eric Cartman and Heidi Turner are confirmed to be in a relationship.
• The CEO of TrollTrace's last name, Bedrager, means "deceiver" or "fraud" in Danish.
• Gerald lies to his wife to avoid exposing himself as an internet troll by claiming he is addicted to "piss porn", the technical term for this fetish is Urolagnia.
• Neither Jimmy Valmer nor Timmy Burch appear in this episode and do not participate in the Weiners Out Movement, likely because they are both disabled and are difficult to animate with genitals.
• A deleted storyboard shows that Heidi was supposed to reveal her Emoji Analysis in this episode instead of two episodes later in "Fort Collins".
  • It was confirmed to be cut from the episode because they wanted to focus on the relationship between Eric and Heidi.
• This marks the second South Park episode in the UK to receive an 18 rating by the BBFC, the first being "World Wide Recorder Concert", which in 2008 was re-rated as 15. This is due to the scene where Sheila urinates in Gerald's face.

• The title of this episode references the Internet meme "Dicks Out for Harambe".
• The TrollTrace.com subplot parodies the 2010 film Trollhunter.
  • The song sung by the Danish workers at TrollTrace is from the Danish TV Christmas-calendar Alletiders jul from 1994.
• Butters' constant referral to Kyle as "Uncle Kyle" is a reference to the term "Uncle Tom", a derogatory expression used to describe subservient African-Americans, which itself is derived from the 1852 abolitionist novel Uncle Tom's Cabin.
• Gerald considering his trolling to be "locker room talk" is a reference to Donald Trump's apology for a 2005 tape in which he and Billy Bush talked about sexually harassing women, which surfaced the week before this episode aired.
• The troll Dildo Shwaggins' internet username is a parody of the main protagonist in the book The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins.
• The scene where Gerald Broflovski and Shwaggins meet underneath the Freemont Bridge is a subtle nod to the giant troll sculpture under the Fremont bridge in Seattle, Washington.

• The BBC newsreader featured in the episode is based on the real-life BBC newsreader Simon McCoy. Shortly after the episode aired in the United Kingdom, McCoy changed his Twitter profile picture to his animated South Park counterpart. Seen right is the comparison of this counterpart to the real McCoy.
• The necklace that Cartman is making before telling Kyle about Heidi is made of Rainbow Loom, which became popular in the middle 2010s.

Continuity

• Charlotte ends her relationship with Butters, which first began in "Where My Country Gone?".
• The only couples still together after the mass break-up in "Skank Hunt" are Tweek/Craig (because they are both boys) and Cartman/Heidi (due to being disconnected from social media).
• Jenkins, the griefer from "Make Love, Not Warcraft", reappears in this episode as one of the internet trolls.
• Gerald mentions being a yelp reviewer, a reference to "You're Not Yelping".
• This is the second time that Ike witnesses his parents having kinky sex. The first was in the episode "Insecurity", where Gerald was seen role-playing as a UPS delivery driver for Sheila.
• The girls and boys previously had a gender war in "Proper Condom Use".

Goofs

• When the crowd of boys are walking through the hallway, Tweek is seen standing to Craig's left. In the next shot, however, he is standing to Craig's right.
• In "Mystery of the Urinal Deuce", Clyde Donovan was said to have had a colostomy at age 5. However, at the volleyball game, there is no evidence of such a procedure.
