About all the character Pics

First off, good job on your editing, you've done more than me in one day than I have in four months, I hope to see a lot more of you here. With that said, I think mabey we should think about re-organizing the pictures of the four main characters a little better, like mabey show a half a dozen of the best Stan pics on the main page and then create a link for the rest of the gallery on a new page. I'm kinda new here too so I didn't want to be forcefull, I just wanted to run this by you and see if you think this will be a good idea before acting on my own,(like you I want you make this the best Wiki possible). Anyways its just food for thought and it if you don't like it, don't worry about it, I keep out of your hair. Sgt. Sarge 9:21 August 31 2010

Cool, I'll help out organizing it when I get the chance Sgt. Sarge 10:01 August 31 2010

Episode articles

Thanks for fixing up those episode articles, they are the foundation of this wiki yet very few users want want to go near them (including me).

Thanks again, and keep up the good work :) --Anon talk 18:40, September 4, 2010 (UTC)

Nope, no advice for you, you're doing great, but if I see something you could improve on, I'll let you know :)
I actually never read the articles, except for the recently created ones, so I think I'll have to start doing that. --Anon talk 19:19, September 4, 2010 (UTC)
I agree, all the bulk images should be put on gallery pages, like the ones listed bellow:
* Stan Marsh/Gallery
* Kyle Broflovski/Gallery
* Eric Cartman/Gallery
* Kenny McCormick/Gallery
Only the most notable images should be left in the article (e.g, The boys in kindergarten or in "South Paark is Gay")
The characters pictures could be better, the current images that are used in infoboxes aren't from the show, but were created by fans, I already had a discussion about it with another user and I intended on changing them to canon images, but as always my ADHD prevented my from doing that :)
If you find can find especially good images for all the boys, then feel free to change them, if I can find some then I'll as well.
Now about linking:
 • To link to an article on this wiki you can put the name in square brackets, like this Example
 • To link to another Wikia wiki, you can use this name you want to appear as the link.
 • To link to wikipedia use this name you want to appear
 • To link to a website use this name you want to appear.
 • For more info see South Park Archives:Rules#Linking.
Remember this wiki is owned by you and all other users, I'm just here to help. So whenever you need something, just drop me a message and I'll be glad to help and as you'll find out, I'm the most patient person on earth. Also fell free to change and reorganize anything you see fit, I trust your judgement :) --Anon talk 20:11, September 4, 2010 (UTC)

RE: If you don't mind

Sure, I've got some spare time, I can transfer those images to their galleries.

To change the profile picture got to Special:Preferences and scroll down to the "Avatar" section, from there, you have an option to upload a picture as your avatar.

And don't worry about being new, you'll learn all this stuff as you go along :) --Anon talk 20:38, September 4, 2010 (UTC)

That's what I'm here for :D --Anon talk 20:42, September 4, 2010 (UTC)

I've finished the galleries, they are ready to be cluttered :) --Anon talk 21:38, September 4, 2010 (UTC)

Nah, it wasn't so hard, I'm used to doing long and tedious jobs around wikia :) --Anon talk 22:43, September 4, 2010 (UTC)
Well, I try to keep everything organized. But it's the people who actually write or fix the writing that are doing an amazing job.
But in all "seriousness", I am awesome :D --Anon talk 23:03, September 4, 2010 (UTC)
You're more then a minor asset here, we need people to cover all the bases, and each one of those people is just as important to the wiki as the other.
And anybody who's willing to help, is already a great editor in my book :) --Anon talk 23:31, September 4, 2010 (UTC)
I will, and I'll be looking forward to your return :) --Anon talk 23:38, September 4, 2010 (UTC)

Images

That's good to hear :)

As for the images, I think that as long as they're on the gallery page, then you can add as many as possible, I'm sure that people will appreciate a nice big gallery of their favorite characters. --Anon talk 18:43, September 5, 2010 (UTC)

The page will not split if there's too many images, but people with slower computers might experience some problems.
There is an option for us to make a second gallery page manually if there's way too many images on the first one, that could help people with slower computers. --Anon talk 19:07, September 5, 2010 (UTC)
Everybody's new at one point or another, so it's only natural that you may not know certain things.
And you are much better at this than you think :) --Anon talk 04:01, September 6, 2010 (UTC)
The knowledge that you have right now is more than sufficient to be a good editor, all you need, is to know how to write and and how to add images :)
And all the technical stuff is pretty easy to learn, once you start getting into it then it will just stay in your mind. But if you want to speed up the learning process, then you should check out this tutorial on the "Help wiki", there's also a couple of useful tips on our "Rules page" that are worth looking at. --Anon talk 21:00, September 7, 2010 (UTC)
No, thank you for showing a genuine interest in helping out on this wiki :)
I'm really looking forward to working with you. And with the second part of season 14 airing in 28 days, we'll have a lot of work on our hands. --Anon talk 20:30, September 8, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Questions and stuff

When new episodes come out, there's always a race who can update the articles the fastest :) I tend to stay out of it and clean it up later. But it's always a fun period for this wiki.

How I become an admin? Well, there were three of us Jmonkey49, Neocarleen and me. Jmonkey49 asked a helper if they would give us higher access levels. I didn't care much if I was made an admin at first, but since they were made admins as well then I tough "why not" :D

I've experimented with the font a little and finally got it working (Check it out!)
But it still think that it wouldn't be a good idea if we changed all the text to that font, because it doesn't have lowercase letters, and some users might think it's just annoying. Also there won't be much editing required if we change the font, all it takes is a couple of edits to the MediaWiki:Common.css, and I'll take care of that :D --Anon talk 18:35, September 9, 2010 (UTC)

I'll experiment with the font a little bit more and try to see where we can use it, without it messing up the wiki too much  :)
On wikia, pretty much everyone can become an admin, all you need to do, is work hard. But some times all you need is for a wiki to be inactive. If you find an inactive wiki, with no active editors and admins, and you have an interest in the subject, you can adopt it and gain admin and/or bureaucrat powers on that wiki.
At the South Park Archives, the requirements you need to meet in order to become an admin are: having at least 1000 edits and being constantly active for at least 3 months. But meeting those requirements doesn't mean you automatically become an admin, as admins are usually appointed on a per-need basis, so if there are 10 active admins, than there's no need for another one. Right now, I'm pretty much the only active admin on here, but I hope the others will reactivate themselves when the new episodes start airing. (Here's a list of all the admins on this wiki.)
Hehe, I'm not the kind of person who gets annoyed easily, and besides, I love talking to other users :D --Anon talk 02:12, September 10, 2010 (UTC)
The 'cluttering' is going well I see, and the choice of images is excellent!
If you ever need help with anything else, don't hesitate to ask :) --Anon talk 03:58, September 11, 2010 (UTC)

Thanx

Thanx for comment :P, you've doing also a great job at the pictures. I am candidate to be an admin. But mine Language is not good.

Categories

Seasons categories dont belong under characters, they belong under episodes. Be careful when doing that. Also dont add categories that dont exist.

Achievements

I think we could use more badges, and they really do motivate people to work more :)

Wikia does allow us to create custom edit tracks, but only for articles in certain categories. I already set up two edit tracks for articles in character and episode categories, but I didn't enable them yet. Each new edit track adds 8 new badges, which work the same as regular badges for editing articles. I might enable those achievements today, but I still need to finish customizing our regular achievements, mainly editing and adding images to the badges. --Anon talk 20:34, September 11, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I went off-line for a while.
Unfortunately we are currently unable to make "really custom" badges, like "a badge for making 555 edits to your own user page". But as far as I know, wikia wants to make it possible in the future :)
I also think that there should be more badges for doing blog stuff. There were actually more badges for writing and commenting on blogs while they were still being tested, but the list was shortened for some reason, probably due to the number of useless comments posted just to get badges. If we get the option, we could extend them.
We currently have 40 badges, some of them can be earned multiple times. If we added character and episode badges, that would make it 56. We could add more "category edit tracks" in the future, but for now, those are the most important ones, and they should be enough :) --Anon talk 21:47, September 11, 2010 (UTC)
I'm often on here for a couple of minutes, just fixing stuff or answering messages and then I'm gone :) And right now it's really busy on here, so there's much more work for me, but I'd rather have more work on my head than if this wiki was inactive :)
I remember someone from the staff mentioning that they are contemplating the idea, but I still don't know if they'll go through with this idea on abandon it all together. We just have to wait and see. And it's probably not their highest priority right now, since they are hard at work with the new wikia look. :D
I think that we can split the galleries after about 100 images, I think that's a reasonable amount on a single page :) --Anon talk 22:10, September 11, 2010 (UTC)

Admins and Achievements

Wow, there's a lot to cover here :)

I think those guys know how much achievements motivate people, and they should get on improving the achievements once that have some free tome :)

We could use more admins, but I'm a little hesitant to make more admins, for a couple of reasons: I'm still hoping for more admins to be active when new episodes air, the other reason is that about half of the users who become admins, almost instantly become inactive, I've seen this trend all around wikia, and it's probably caused by lack on motivation.

I will add some new admins in the future, but what I look at when considering someone for adminship is, my personal evaluation of the persons edits (quality not quantity), being active, communication with other users and the knowledge of the rules (and the show). I'm going to take a look at all the potential candidates, and maybe decide who could be trusted with admin powers.

The character galleries look great! Episode galleries still need a lot of work, if you could do that, then all of us here would be grateful :)

Also I saw you added a lot of categories to the "episode galleries", this must have taken you forever :) but some of the categories don't belong on those pages (at least in my mind), mainly "Characters" and "Character images" categories. "Characters category" should only be used on character pages and "Character images" is usually used to categorize files, it can also be used on the new character galleries. I might fix some of those if I have the time.

Congratulations on becoming "Number 1". I'm really happy you didn't give up and decided to help improve this wiki, and I'm happy that could help with that :D --Anon talk 18:57, September 12, 2010 (UTC)

You didn't waste your time adding them, but you did add two to many :D
You can thate look at this page (South Park Archives:Episode Images project) to see which pages need more images.
To be honest, becoming an admin isn't all that glorious, it's just more work and responsibility. But having more "authorytahh" is also nice :)
Obsessively trying to get on top of that leader board is never good, but a little friendly competition is always welcome. I'm actually happy that we have 4 different users at the top, instead of just one dominating all others :D
My main goal on this wiki, is helping it grow by making things easier more uniform and by getting people to stay with us, and the thing we need the most is a good community working together to better this wiki. --Anon talk 20:11, September 12, 2010 (UTC)
Haha, I always like to use stuff from the show in messages :D
You're already doing good, but going over the rules wouldn't hurt. Although the rules are still lacking, and some of them are only in my mind, I think I'll need to go over them and fill them out a little more :)
Now, get back to adding them pictures :) --Anon talk 01:39, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
