Trivia

• Stan, Cartman, and Kenny do not have major roles in this episode and only appear in the classroom and in Kyle's house at the end; Stan and Cartman have one line each, while Kenny has none.
• Matt Stone, in an interview on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, said that as of this episode Comedy Central allowed the word shit to be aired uncensored.
• Ugly Bob's ability to turn Tooth Decay into stone just by staring at it is akin to Medusa of Greek legend and her ability to turn any living thing she looks at into stone.
• The dental hygiene play performed by the kindergartners is a lot better produced than their last play at the end of "Helen Keller! The Musical". It's possible this is because the combined factors of the 3rd graders appeared to make their play all on their own, so it's likely the kindergartners made that one by themselves, too and Mr. Mackey's deep feeling on the issue of tooth decay.
• When Ike is searching in his closet for his box of faith, a pirate hat is seen on his lamp. This may be a reference to his "adventures" as a pirate in "Fatbeard", there is also a Chinpokomon from "Chinpokomon".
• Canadians wear order of knight, which has resemblance to Order of British Empire, a parody of the Order of Canada.
• In the creator's commentary, Matt Stone mentions how much he disliked the hype surrounding Prince William and Catherine Middleton's wedding and debated with the staff if it was even worth making into an episode. Trey Parker then mentions that he saw parts of it and how it felt strange, especially having an announcer constantly mentioning that certain parts were "traditional". They also mention:
  • The Canadians attending the wedding were the first scenes animated for the episode, as they wanted to see if they could run with that idea into a fully fleshed out episode.
  • The children's play was based on Trey and Matt having just finished rehearsals for The Book of Mormon, though the idea of Tooth Decay was simply because they ran out of ideas.
  • The Eskimos' lines were actually recorded by a local Native American tribe from California. They also mention that the scenes involving them were changed, as they originally were going for a National Geographic type of scene.
  • It was also revealed that there would have been two additional scenes with Mr. Mackey screaming at the children, but were cut for time. One scene would have involved him taking the kids to Niagara Falls to help them finally understand about the dangers of tooth decay.

References to Popular Culture

• The Canadian royal wedding is a parody of Prince William and Catherine Middleton's wedding.
  • Many of the clothes worn by attendees were based on actual people - for example, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson wore a conspicuous blue "gondola hat" at the real-life Wedding, and a Canadian counterpart can be seen in identical dress.
  • A few guests at the wedding resemble members of the Royal Family, including Prince Harry, Queen Elizabeth II, and Michael Middleton.
  • The announcer constantly referring to elements of the wedding as "traditional" was based on NBC's televised broadcast of the wedding, in which Robert Jobson did much the same thing.
• Canadian musicians Bryan Adams and Corey Hart as well as Canadian rock band Rush are shown in the episode.
  • Corey Hart wearing sunglasses as he heads inside is a nod to his 1984 single "Sunglasses at Night".
• In reality, Canada does not have a monarchical system, The Queen and God Save the Queen are such royal symbols in the country as it is a Commonwealth realm.
• The mass depression and suicides in Canada satirizes the public reaction of the citizens of England to the death of Princess Diana.
• Mr. Mackey's curse-heavy rants are a reference to the University of Texas baseball head coach Augie Garrido.
• "Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo" is a song from the Walt Disney's animated film Cinderella.
• The band Rush plays the parody of "Candle in the Wind" by Elton John, a song he adapted for Princess Diana Spencer following her death in 1997.
• At one point, the Mushroom People of Nova Scotia are seen, which bear a resemblance to Toads from the Mario franchise by Nintendo.
• During the marriage, Sir Edward Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance: March No. 1" can be heard.
• The Prime Minister is a parody of Pierre Trudeau, father of the current Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau.
• The song that the kids perform about tooth decay appears to be based on the Sesame Street sketch, "Prairie Dawn's School Pageant", specifically the tooth pageant as seen here.

Continuity

• Ugly Bob had not been seen in 13 years until this episode. Additionally, he was originally unable to turn people to stone with his ugliness. It is possible that he has grown even more hideous since acquiring the paper bag from Terrance and Phillip and moving to America.
• Mr. Mackey states his father was murdered by Tooth Decay; Mr. Mackey Senior was last seen alive in "Child Abduction is Not Funny".
• Tweek Tweak appears in the classroom for the first time since "Breast Cancer Show Ever".
• Terrance, Phillip and The Queef Sisters appear at the royal wedding but don't have speaking roles.

Goofs

• In the shots in the theater where Mr. Mackey is sitting at a table, the table top passes through the row of seats in front of him.
• When Ike first appears on the stage in his Tooth Decay costume, his nose is missing.
• When Ike is walking with a sad look in the TV store scene, one of his sleeves are missing.
