Trivia

• When the boys think about all the "good times" they had in South Park, clips from "Starvin' Marvin" (the turkey attack), "Pinkeye" (the Zombie attack), "Mecha-Streisand" (the Mecha-Streisand attack), "Summer Sucks" (Giant Black Snake) "Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls" (Mr. Hankey flooding the town with feces), "The Red Badge of Gayness" (the Confederate players running riot), "Krazy Kripples" (Christopher Reeve throwing a car), "Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery" (the pirate ship firing its cannon), "I'm a Little Bit Country" (the pro/anti-war people fighting each other), "It Hits the Fan" (the dragon Geldon running amok), and "Trapper Keeper" (the blob Cartman attacking) are shown which are memories of their town getting attacked.
• When Stan is trying to convince the casino owner to not destroy the town he says "we shop in that Walmart". But the town has not gotten a Walmart yet. They get one in "Something Wall-Mart This Way Comes" in the next season.
• At the end of the episode, the boy who made random appearances breaks the 4th wall mentioning a voice contest. In reality, there actually was a contest for a South Park fan to lend their voice and be animated into the episode. The winner was Alex Glick, as revealed at the end.
• In the meeting in the school, Towelie is hidden but does not speak.
• As a running gag, the characters keep using the term "Indians" only to correct themselves or each other by instead saying "Native Americans".
• As a running gag, all the Native American characters laugh in unison to the rhythm of "Ha ha ha ha!"

References to Popular Culture

• The song the townspeople sing is "Love Is a Battlefield" by Pat Benatar with a cappella “Ba-Bum-Bumm” emphasis as in the rock video percussion part for lack of a background soundtrack. This is the second appearance of the song in the series, the first being in "Ike's Wee Wee".
• SARS was a disease that was very prominent in the news when the episode originally aired, largely afflicting people from Asia, hence the Chinese men rubbed on the blankets. Stan's father incorrectly states that there is only a 98% chance of survival; in reality, SARS had a 9.6% fatality rate instead of the 2% as stated by Stan's father. Although SARS is somewhat still in circulation today, cases are nowhere near as frequent as they were when this episode originally aired.
• "Shock and awe" was a catchphrase used for the strategies employed during the operation to invade Iraq, which had begun when the episode originally aired.
• The using of blankets to give the townspeople SARS is a reference to an infamous incident in Pontiac's Rebellion (1763) when British officers led by the brutal general Lord De La Warr gave American Indians blankets exposed to smallpox in an attempt to infect them.
• Mr. Garrison says "You had me at "free blanket", a snowclone, and a reference to Jerry Maguire.
• When Chief Runs With Premise offers the people of South Park $5 credit at the casino, this could be a reference to Canada's Treaty Days, where each First Nation citizen receives $5 from the government. It is also common for many Indian Casinos to give out $5-$10 credit for things such as first-time visitor birthdays.

Continuity

• Cartman suggests they infect Kyle with AIDS and start a fundraiser but use it to buy the town back. In a later episode, "Tonsil Trouble", Cartman would actually infect Kyle with AIDS.

Hidden Visitors

• During the news broadcast on the SARS outbreak, there is a hidden visitor in front of the Post Office door, behind a cardboard shelter.

• In the Mandarin Chinese and Ukrainian dubs, the naked Chinese man picked up by Chief Runs With Premise is given an intelligible line when he is rubbed against the carpet:
  • Mandarin Chinese: "你幹什麼？別亂來啊。啊，破皮了啦……" (Nǐ gànshénme? Bié luàn lái a. A, pò píle la, "What are you doing? Don't go rough. Ah, my skin's broken...")
  • Ukrainian: "Боже мой що ви робіте?" (Bozhe moy shcho vy robite?, "My God, what are you doing?")

French

• While Gerald works out the amount that they could win on their second try, he announces the amount as "more than $12 million" instead of the exact figure.

Mandarin Chinese

• Johnny Manymoons is dubbed as Taiwanese television personality Chang Hung-yi.
• The initial losses by Randy and Gerald is set at NT$15,000 and NT$600,000 respectively.
• Instead of a dog parade, Butters suggests on a Barbie dress-up parade.
• The amount required to buy back the town is set at NT$80 million. The town was able to raise $3 million on their own, before betting the amount on roulette to win $105 million.
  • While Gerald works out the amount that they could win on their second try, he only takes the required $80 million into account instead of the full $105 million that they had won.
• All mentions of SARS are changed to the bird flu.
• The naked Chinese men are dubbed as cyborgs.

Polish

• All mentions of SARS were changed to coronavirus.

Spanish (Latin America)

• The second joke by Johnny Manymoons is changed, where the Pony asks, "Tell him (Eagle) to return my boots", and later responds with "Why not have a leg?"

• Chief Runs With Premise is dubbed as Біжу за грошима (Bizhu za hroshyma, lit. "Running For Money").
• The laughs by the Native Americans at the Comedy Club are not executed in sync with each other.
• Premise Running Thin is dubbed as Гарний прибуток (Harnyy prybutok, "Good Profit").
