Trivia
- The episode reuses some of the background music composed for South Park: The Stick of Truth.
- The music heard while exploring the town in the game is played during the argument between Randy Marsh and Steve Black in front of the Credigree Weed patrons.
- The music heard during the fight against The Bard is played as the police officers lock Randy up in the police station's jail cell.
- A character appears in the hallway dressed exactly like Bradley Biggle; however, the kid's haircut is considerably different, so this should not be considered a Bradley sighting.
- Stan wears his jacket unbuttoned throughout the episode.
- Butters sings a variation of his signature song, "I've Got Some Apples".
- A couple of kids that already wear green appear in this episode unchanged from their original outfits. The most notable examples include Kyle, Lola, and Lannie.
- Millie Larsen and Nelly do not appear in this episode, though both are prominent background characters wearing green.
- Wendy seems to have been originally set to appear in this episode, as the South Park Studios website released a picture of her in a green hat with an Irish flag, but was eventually cut.
References to Popular Culture
- This episode focuses on Saint Patrick's Day.
- Randy imitates the Leprechaun, small fairies that are often depicted as mischievous. He also adopts a slight Irish accent that he drifts in and out of.
- As Randy points out, some people view the celebration of Saint Patrick's Day by those who are not of Irish heritage as cultural appropriation. He also compares it to other holidays such as Cinco de Mayo, in which some people complain that it has been culturally appropriated by white people and major corporations.[1][2][3]
- Notably, in the United States, both Saint Patrick's Day and Cinco de Mayo are often viewed as a celebratory holiday to get drunk and wear culturally-themed outfits rather than honor the events and people involved, as depicted by the townsfolk in the episode. In contrast, those holidays are not celebrated as intensely in their native countries.[4][5]
- As Butters notes, the original meaning of Saint Patrick's Day was to honor Saint Patrick, a Roman-British man who was captured by Irish pirates and is viewed as the Patron Saint of Ireland.
- Randy denies that white people were ever slaves. This statement is completely false, as nearly every culture in human history has practiced slavery and the word itself comes from Slav, a group of people from Central and Eastern Europe.
- Butters is deemed a sexual predator by the townsfolk and particularly the local police, one officer comparing him to Harvey Weinstein. Weinstein was accused of sexual assault of varying degree in 2017 in a multitude of cases.
- Weinstein has been referenced in several past episodes, such as "Tegridy Farms Halloween Special" and "Sons A Witches".
Goofs
- Stephen wears a green tie for St. Patrick's Day to not be pinched despite almost always wearing a green shirt, meaning regardless to if he did or didn't wear a tie, he wouldn't be pinchable.
- Isla can be seen at two different places when the school watches Butters get arrested.
- When Randy receives the cake from The Boys, he pulls out the weed jar and places it atop of the toilet along with the cake, with bits of it also on the floor. Then, after his attempt to bribe the guard fails, the cake is now on the floor with the jar sticking out of it as he sits on the toilet. After the camera changes angles as Butters said that Saint Patrick tried to convert the Irish heathens, the entire cake and jar, as well as the cake pieces on the floor, have disappeared altogether.
