References to Popular Culture
- Casa Bonita is a real world restaurant in Denver, Colorado. Unusually, the restaurant allowed their unaltered name to be used on South Park.
- Parts of this episode may parody the Fallout video game series (which in turn takes several references from the film "A Boy and His Dog"), such as the post-apocalyptic world Butters thought he awoke to and the dog he befriends, a possible reference to Dogmeat.
- When he is in the bunker and scrapyard, Butters Stotch sings "If You Leave Me Now" by Chicago.
- Cartman gives Butters a box of Chips-A-Ho! cookies, a parody of Chips Ahoy!.
Continuity
- Butters makes reference to this episode later in "AWESOM-O".
- Cartman is finally invited to Casa Bonita, along with all of his classmates, in the later episode "You Have 0 Friends".
Goofs
- Cartman says to Butters that a cannibal bit off his hand, but later, when Butters can see, he does not realize that Cartman's hand is supposed to be missing.
- When Kyle explains, why he takes Butters instead of Cartman he says "I'm gonna take Butters. He invited me to his birthday party last month, so I owe him one." but Butter's birthday is on September 11 and Kyle's on May 26 which means there are more than 7 months between their birthdays, not one.
- While in Stan's house, Kyle is seen with his gloves. However, when Kyle crosses his arms, the gloves are missing.

- In the Polish and Mandarin Chinese dubs, after Cartman gets caught after jumping off the cliff, the cops tell him that he has a trial and if he is found guilty, he would be sentenced to a week of juvenile.

- In the news report on Butters going missing, the field reporter starting line of "Tom..." is changed to "Good day, everyone."

- Casa Bonita is named "凱達格藍" (Kǎi dá gé lán), named after Ketagalan, an indigenous Taiwanese people.
- In the montage of Cartman calling Kyle "Jew", all instances of "Jew" are replaced with 小菊花 (Xiǎo jú huā), a slang term for "asshole".
- While asking advice to act nice to people, Jimmy's telling of jokes are replaced with actual advice of helping people.
