Trivia

• The title is an obvious parody of "board games".
• The scene featured in the promo clip for this episode was missing Cartman's last line from the promo in the actual episode.
• A new opening was created for this episode, which uses the PC Babies song from "Buddha Box".
• One of the main topics of the episode is the issue of transgender athletes competing in female athletic competitions. While there has been some support for trans athletes to be allowed to compete in the gender they identify as rather than what they were assigned at birth, there have also been complaints that trans female athletes have an unfair advantage compared to biologically female athletes, such as having larger muscle mass and higher bone density, which some believe costs biologically female athletes victories that should have been originally theirs.
• The topic of tabletop gaming is shown in this episode, as Trey Parker and Matt Stone are known to be big fans of board games and have featured them in past episodes.
• PC Principal's first name is revealed to be "Peter Charles" when he sees a news article about himself on his phone.
• During the shot put event, Heather Swanson appears to have stepped out of the circle while throwing the shot, which would have been considered a foul throw.
• This is the first episode in Season 23 that Randy Marsh does not appear in.

• The song "I Am the Best" by 2NE1 was played when Heather enter the school gym. This is the second time that a K-Pop song was played in an episode of South Park since PSY's song "Gangnam Style" in the episode "A Nightmare on Face Time".
  • Ironically, Matt & Trey credited them alongside their YG Entertainment labelmate group Big Bang in the ending credits of the video game South Park: The Stick of Truth.
• At the Dice Studz meeting, the kids mention BGG (BoardGameGeek), Game Night and The Dice Tower, which are YouTube channels that review upcoming board games.
  • Both BGG and The Dice Tower later thanked South Park Studio on Twitter, with The Dice Tower also posting a photo from South Park Studio with Trey Parker.
• In the "Strong Woman" song played during the tabletop gaming match between Heather Swanson and the girls, Rodney Smith, Tom Vasel, and Becca Scott are name-dropped. All three are YouTubers who host gaming tutorial channels Watch It Played, The Dice Tower and Geek and Sundry respectively.
• The Strong Woman song sounds similar to "Godzilla" by Blue Oyster Cult.
• The idea of girls being admitted to the boys game club, while boys are excluded from the girls' club has a parallel in scouting, in that the Boy Scouts of America have recently admitted females as well as transgender people who identify as males into their group and changed their name to "Scouts BSA" to reflect a gender neutral organization, while the Girl Scouts of the USA still exclude males and trans females from joining.

• In Strong Woman's house, there is a picture of her, PC Principal and the PC Babies skiing and another picture of them at a picnic. Both pictures were from the final scenes of "Buddha Box".
• The new opening for this episode is taken from the PC Babies song from "Buddha Box".
• This is the first appearance of Lisa Berger since "The Hobbit". She is seen in the Board Girls room. Similarly, Shauna makes her first appearance since "Erection Day".
• The school still serves Incredible Beef Tacos.
• The board game Western Legends can be seen in the Board Girls room. It was previously seen being played by The Boys in "A Boy And A Priest".
• Cartman brings out the board game Nemesis to scare off the girls. It was previously seen in Stan's room in "Band in China".
• In the Board Girls room, a poster for Dune can be seen on a wall. The game was previously seen in Stan's room in "Band in China".
• One of the girls who was seen bullying Annie Knitts in South Park: The Stick of Truth makes a first show appearance in the Board Girls room.
• Stan appears to continue his hobby of playing board games and has a much deeper knowledge of them than the other boys do ever since the episode "Freemium Isn't Free" where Stan gave up his freemium game obsession for a cheaper alternative.
• Heidi Turner is briefly seen near the end of the episode, though she was not wearing her hat that was first introduced in "Skank Hunt".

Goofs

• The ending theme kept Randy Marsh's "Tegridy Farms" scat despite this episode not being centered around Randy and Tegridy Farms itself.
• List of errors in the Twilight Struggle board (compared to the real-life version):
  • None of the countries' stability numbers are correct.
  • With the exception of the Domination marker in Central America and Presence marker in South America, all other Presence/Domination/Control markers are incorrect.
  • No flags are seen in the country spaces.
