Trivia

• The episode title of "D-Yikes!" is a play on the term 'dykes'.
• Greek Mythology, and therefore the 300 comics and film, mention the Greek island of Lesbos, the islanders of which are known as 'Lesbians'. This inspired the story and puns based around homosexual women.
  • The address for Les Bos is 13280, which stands for LEZBO in leet.
• Mrs. Garrison and Allison can be seen kissing for a single frame just before they start scissoring.
• Starting from this episode, Jimmy Valmer is now a regular student in the 4th Grade classroom.
• Before the sex change, Garrison states that Mexicans are useless and even tries several times to have them kicked out of town. In this episode, she goes to the Mexicans for help spying on the Persians.
• When Mrs. Garrison tries to convince Mayor McDaniels to help them stop the Persians from buying the Les Bos bar, the Mayor says "You're a lesbian now?" because of the seemingly frequent gender and sexual preference changes that Garrison makes.
• This episode marks the most uses of slow-motion, ranking 11 times in a single episode.

References to Popular Culture

• Mrs. Garrison assigns the class the book The Old Man and the Sea to read, which is a short novel and its plot is heavily summarized in the episode by the Mexicans.
• Nearly all of this episode parodies the movie 300 including:
  • Mrs. Garrison's role as leader of the resistance is based on Leonidas, the king of Sparta who lead the Spartans into battle against the Persians.
  • The Persians are portrayed as the villains who are trying to take over Sparta / Les Bos in the film and the episode.
  • Mrs. Garrison's "This is Les Bos!" followed by her kicking one of the Persians in the crotch, parodies the movie's line "This is Sparta!" and Leonidas kicking the Persian messenger down a pit, as seen here.
  • Mrs. Garrison standing in front of Les Bos and telling the other women "Remember this day!" as the Persians advance towards them also parodies this scene from the film.
  • Rauf Xerxes, the Persian club owner, is modeled after Xerxes the Persian king who tries to conquer Sparta.
  • Xerxes arriving atop of a gold covered hummer followed by some Persians bending over to act as steps for him to meet Garrison, followed by him putting his hands on Garrison's shoulders parodies Xerxes meeting Leonidas as seen here.
  • Incredibly heavy use of slow-motion.
  • The background music during the scenes with the Persians has similar sounding music to the film.
  • The lesbians use a battle cry similar to the Spartans' "Ahu! Ahu!".
• The logo on the treadmill Mr. Garrison is using is similar to the logo for the video game Portal.
• The music heard in Les Bos is by The Indigo Girls and Melissa Etheridge.

Continuity

• In the past episodes, there was confusion if Ms. Garrison's first name was still Herbert, but it is revealed in this episode that he changed it to Janet.
• Ms. Garrison going around and asking each lesbian if they wanted to scissor, is something she did previously in "South Park is Gay!", when he thought all the men were gay now.
• This is the last appearance of Pip Pirrip until his death in "201".
• In "Tom's Rhinoplasty", the boys do not seem to know what a lesbian is, but in this episode, they do.

Goofs

• The sign outside of Les Bos that reads "Ladie's night every night" is punctuated incorrectly. It should be "Ladies' night every night".
• In the last scene, Pip is seen in his seat in the first shot. When the students are shown in their seats again a few seconds later, Jimmy has replaced Pip.
• Despite Cartman telling the Mexicans in Spanish to write essays, La samaraisia (summary), the Mexicans write their "eses" instead of the essays the boys need. This is because "samaraisia" is not a Spanish word. The correct words would be ensayo (essay) and resumen (summary).
• When Janet Garrison and Allison are in the bathroom, the bathroom stalls are on Allison's right. But when the camera focuses on Allison the stalls are on her left.
• When Allison and Garrison enter Les Bos and one of the women in the booth asks the other "Who is the new girl?", the other woman's mouth moves as if she is answering the question, but with no sound.
