South Park in 2022

Hey gang, it’s time to wind down 2022 and welcome 2023. That means it’s time to take a look back at the year as it relates to the wiki, the two South Park Discords, and the show. We’ll also go over our plans for next year. This is going to be a lengthy post so grab that popcorn and let’s dig in!

Wiki Administrators

This year, in March we said goodbye to SG after his 4 years of service on the wiki. In January we added our newest bureaucrat, SkyRider747! Otherwise known as the editing machine. Aside from that, it’s been pretty quiet on the staff front and that’s how we like it. I do want to thank SG though for his service to the wiki, and my friendship with him.

South Park Official Discord

It’s been over a year since we all were introduced to the official South Park Discord and since I and JVM became mods there. We’re very happy with how the year went. The server grew exponentially and added 3 new mods with more on the way. We integrated wiki bot to SPS Discord to allow users to search for wiki content without leaving the server. I’m grateful for the relationship we have with 2th and the entire moderator team and the community as a whole. We will certainly continue to focus on the official Discord again next year and looking forward to what’s next there.

Repurposing the South Park Archives Discord

As we all undoubtedly have seen, the official Discord IS the place for social conversation. But, things haven’t been 100% with using it as a place to discuss wiki work or projects. So the need to keep the SPA server is still there. What we will be doing is cutting down the majority of social channels and trying to repurpose Discord. We don’t know exactly how this will look but it’s on our radar early next year and we will let you know of any changes. Users who want an active, social community should be joining the Official South Park Discord.

(Stats: SPA Discord had 5,783 total messages from October to December 2022 and 650 visitors)

South Park 25th Anniversary Concert

This August, I had the pleasure of meeting JVM, Airborn, Citizen, 2th, Lemmiwinks, and so many others in person at the 25th anniversary concert. It was the first time I’ve met anybody in person from this site aside from my buddy Millie who I met in Austin in March and Alstro who I met in Beverly Hills in May. (Millie is super cool, that was so fun).

Being with everybody was such a blast. Getting to talk about the wiki with people who “get it” in person is such a unique experience (this is why Community Connect is so cool). We discussed the wiki, we drank champagne, and we went to this Meow Wolf weird ass place. But most importantly, we went to the concert together. The 4 of us. I would not have wanted to be there with anybody else. Going to the South Park Concert was a cool experience, but those guys and the fans are who make it so much better. Because you all UNDERSTAND each other in a way. It’s almost like we South Park Fans speak a language only we can understand.

For me, it truly was an incredible experience and the most fun I’ve had in quite a while. I’m hoping in May with the opening of Casa Bonita, we can get the crew back (and expand it) get to meet even more fans and editors, and have a fucking blast. Looking forward to May!

Season 25 and Paramount Movies

South Park resumed its 25th season in February (with Pajama Day) and it was great to have the weekly routine back! The seasons are shortened now to only six episodes but hey, at least we got something right? We don’t know when the next season is coming but if it’s anything like last year, we can look out for it in Q1 2023. We also had two Paramount Specials, in June and July with Streaming Wars. We are guaranteed at least two of those next year so watch out for those. Both episodes and movies were successful for the wiki and we’re looking forward to the next ones.

Oh yeah, remember The Big Fix? I should note the wiki had Tolkiens name changed within an hour or two after the episode (thank you Kylara!) and we got some wild social media attention for that. Definitely a highlight of the year.

Wiki Projects

This year, we’ve embarked on lots of new exciting projects to broaden the scope of the wiki. Some of these are still in progress and some have had major development like merchandise. Our work on major projects like Casa Bonita Improvement (adding coverage of the actual building history, food menus, commercials etc) will continue. Merchandise projects will continue. We will continue to refine coverage of the South Park Anniversary Trailer and the 25th Anniversary concert. We’re also planning to review and make changes to Interactions AND Alter Egos pages next year also.

Fandom

This year saw the introduction of myself into the Fandom Stars program which is cool (and Jazie admin of the Spanish wiki). A productive Community Connect in May as well as other collaborations with Fandom on things like video. We also gladly added a new Fandom feature, maps. More CAN be done though next year and we will be looking forward to what Fandom as a whole has in store next year.

Editor Data

It’s time to look at what we achieved this year on the wiki.

• The Community showed up yet again! Well over 800 new pages were created this year
• The wiki averages during the week around 40-65K views
• During new episodes or releases this year, we’ve been as high as 150K views
• Cartman, Butters, Kenny, Stan, and Kyle remain the most searched-for pages.
• More interesting ones that got searched this year: Chef and David Letterman
• Don’t have exact data but let me tell you ever since The Big Fix, Tolkien’s page has been on an absolute tear with views.

The Future

So, about next year… We’re going to continue to invest in the site with projects and add new content. I’m very excited to have gotten an iPad Pro with a decent keyboard set up over the holidays which means I can finally jump back into the editing world. Very much looking forward to what’s in store with the official Discord as well. Specific projects include remakes of the interactions and alter ego pages and adding more quotes to the site.

Most importantly, the potential for our wiki community, and the South Park community as a whole to come together again in May for the opening of Casa Bonita.

As I said above August left such a profound impact on me and I can’t wait for May. We got great things in store next year. As long as you all promise to stay along for the ride.

We’ve formed such a top-notch team and I truly love working with all of them. Much love to South Park Studios also for everything they do for that server as well. The users there are welcoming and very supportive of us and for that I’m grateful.

I truly got to shoutout 2th, the creator of the Official Discord. I have nothing but the highest respect for you and what you have created. Whether we are talking about something for the server, or just talking about what dumb shit Elon Musk did. I love talking with you and I commend you for being such a fantastic person to work with.

I got so many more people to thank, Alstro for being one of my best friends ever, Fuzzy for being such a good friend, Toby, Supergug for always being there for me, same with Vicente, Rain, Jazie, Brian, Doffy, Ezra, Selin. Seriously thank ALL of you for making my year.

I got to thank Mandy and Kylara from Fandom as always for the work they do for us every year. We reached out quite a few times and they helped us every time. I truly appreciate their help and the opportunity to work with everybody at Fandom, to help better this wiki.

I got to thank Tomius, this wiki’s founder for what he did in December 2005. He recently came back to stop by and take a look around and I truly appreciated and enjoyed his presence. You surely wouldn’t have known the wiki would be where it is today when you made it. But now that you’ve seen it, I got a promise for you, we’re going to continue to build up this site and we will not stop. It’s going to continue to be the best place on the web for South Park content. That’s my promise to you.

Last but certainly not least, I got to thank truly from the bottom of my heart. The Editors and Readers of South Park Archives. You inspire us to do more, and you ARE the people who have made this wiki what it is today. Without the views and edits, this wiki doesn’t survive. So we are ALL truly appreciative that you would take the time out of your day to post on Discord, read an article or share it on Twitter. Or to edit and create a brand new page, or just make touchups to one. Seriously, thank you all.

Thanks to EACH AND EVERYONE of you for your interactions with the South Park Archives Community. I always say this but it’s true, you have choices where you can get your South Park information. Another certain website (Why?), Wikipedia, IMDB. There are tons of choices, but you choose to pick us, and for that, we are immensely grateful, and we will keep working hard for all of you.
