Trivia
- Tolkien and Wendy are the only members in their respective families who are not seen attending church.
- The priest call that has the kid's voice saying "I love Jesus!" was voiced by Trey Parker's daughter Boogie Parker.
References to Popular Culture
- The episode references sexual abuse of minors in the Catholic Church.
- The Catholic Cleanup Crew offering Father Maxi a transfer to the Maldives is a reference to parish transfers of abusive priests.
- The boys play the board game Western Legends. According to the game's creators, Trey Parker and the staff at South Park Studios are big fans of the board game. [1][2][3]
- Butters and Father Maxi look at Bible quotes on a computer in the library.
- The website they are visiting, www.catholicscripture.com, is not an existing website.
- The cleanup crew reference Daniele Comboni with the "Kumboni" cleanup machine.
- The Kumboni is based on a "Zamboni" or ice resurfacer.
- "Flash Light" by Parliament plays at the beginning of Clyde's birthday party.
- "More Bounce to the Ounce" by Zapp plays after the kids sing "Happy Birthday" to Clyde.
- "A Place To Fall Apart" by Merle Haggard comes on the radio at the bar when Randy is feeling down.
- "It's a Love Thing" by The Whispers is heard when the Catholic Crew search the roller rink and use the Kumby on Clyde Donovan.
- Toys R Us is referenced by Linda Stotch in her joke about Catholic priests.
- Family entertainment center Chuck E. Cheese's is referenced by one of the church parishioners in a joke about Catholic priests.
- In reality, a transfer to the Maldives would not be an idyllic paradise for a Catholic priest, as that faith is the target of persecution in the Maldives. Citizens who convert to Christianity lose their citizenship and risk torture and imprisonment, and publicly practicing Christianity is forbidden.
- Clyde quotes the Simpsons Comic Book Guy when he says "Worst birthday ever". He even says it in the same manner as the character.
Continuity
- Stan wears a cast on his right arm, likely due to him having been shot in the previous episode "Dead Kids".
- Stan started playing board games in "Freemium Isn't Free" as a way to avoid playing addictive mobile games.
- Father Maxi references "Red Hot Catholic Love" when he went to the Vatican to try to address the issue of pedophilia in the Catholic church.
- Clyde has a birthday in this episode.
- He has previously had birthdays in "You Have 0 Friends" and "Moss Piglets" (which likely takes place shortly before this, as Clyde had invited Butters to his party) This, and the ten candles on his cake, show that he has turned ten, like Stan in "You're Getting Old."
- The hashtag "#cancelsouthpark" is shown again in the background during the end credits, as it has been for all episodes in Season Twenty-Two up until the episode "The Problem with a Poo".
Goofs
- When the boys are playing Western Legends, the box for the game is close to the edge of the table. When Father Maxi gets up and leaves, the box is now directly in front of Stan.
- In the same scene, Randy says, "Four boys and a Priest playing a board game!". This is incorrect since there was Stan, Cartman, Butters, Kenny, and Kyle, making them five instead of four.
- When Randy and Stuart McCormick are at the bar and a townsperson announces that the church is open again, Stuart has his beer in his right hand and then puts his bottle down with the logo side facing the camera / back of the bar. When Stuart and Randy turn to head outside, Stuart is still holding the bottle, but in his left hand and the logo side of the bottle is now facing the exit.
- Mr. Mackey calls up the Archdiocese of Denver to complain about the church being closed. However, Park County is located in the Diocese of Colorado Springs.
- When the priests scrutinize Clyde's face for semen, one says that he "can't tell if it's cum or frosting" to which the high priest replies, "it's an 8-year-old's birthday party; of course it's cum," even though it is presumed to be Clyde's tenth birthday.
- List of errors in the scriptures website:
- The verse "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds" is labelled with "Proverbs 147:3". The correct title should be Psalms 147:3.
- "1 John 4:7-12O" has an extra letter 'O' at the end
- 1 John 4:19 has an extra verse from Proverbs 17:3.
